Food and Drink Policy
We aim to create a welcoming, clean, and comfortable environment for everyone to enjoy. We also recognize that library users may need to take refreshment while visiting our Community Libraries. Food and drink pose a potential risk to library furnishings, collections, and equipment, and library and library users are required to adhere to the following policy in regard to the consumption of food and drink when in our libraries.
Our Expectation
We allow the consumption of food and drink in our libraries on a limited basis and we expect library users to consume food and drink within the premises in a considerate and responsible manner.
- Library users are expected to leave no trace of food or beverages consumed and must clean up after themselves by removing any crumbs, wiping sticky surfaces, and placing food refuse and packaging into the receptacles provided for that person.
- Library users must report any major spillages to library staff immediately so that arrangements may be made to clean them up promptly.
- Library users must not leave any food or drink uncovered or unattended. Unattended food or drink may be removed and discarded at staff discretion.
- Library users may not consume or bring into the library any hot food and drinks.
- Library users may not consume or bring into the library any alcoholic beverages.
- Library users may not consume any food or drink when using library computer equipment.
- Non-alcoholic beverages and other liquids from spill-proof cups, cans, or screw-top containers are allowed. Open containers are not allowed
- Infant bottles are allowed for children.
Enforcement
Library staff are authorised to to issue a verbal warning to library users eating food or drinking within the library in a manner that is not consistent with this policy.
If the library user refuses to co-operate they will be asked to leave as quickly and quietly as possible.
Acting abusively with verbal or physical threats or failing to cooperate with staff may result in immediate suspension of library privileges.
